These punk-inflected thrash metallers out of Portland, Oregon have been kicking it old school since the 1980s. Their musical influences had ranged from a wide variety of acts, Discharge, Hellhammer, Bathory, Venom and Possessed just to name a few. Joel Grind founded Toxic Holocaust in 1999 being the original team mate who wrote and recorded everything within his very own bed room. After a couple of demo releases (Radiation Sickness, 1999; Critical Mass, 2002), an official LP was revealed entitled "Evil Never Dies (2003). Two years went by and after some constant touring hiring backup back after backup Grind had gone off to release his second attempt "Hell On Earth" (2005) then another round of touring followed. Soon after Relapse Records contacted Grind and everything fell into place from that day, bringing forth "An Overdose of Death," (2008) and thus the birth Grind like's call "Nuclear Speed Metal" was born. If it's good, it's good. However, there are some genres of music out there that are quite polarizing like heavy metal or smooth jazz. Alexander Shulgin song, "My Moscow" would certainly be considered smooth jazz, and right off the bat, that may turn a lot of people off. However, the acoustic guitar playing of Paul Drew adds a sort of flamenco feel that comes from the minor scale pattern used, and also is a result of the nylon strings (which I believe guitar players often under-appreciate). Chris Aldridge adds a clean sax sound and his tone works well for this style. Though Shulgin's skills as a composer are more clearly on display on other tracks, his compositional chops are still present here, regardless of the simplicity.
